ANNUAL CONCERT FEATURES SCV'S TOP MUSICIANS.

NEWHALL - The Hart District Honor Band, composed of Santa Clarita's top junior high and high school musicians, will perform Saturday in the Hart High auditorium auditorium

Hundreds of students auditioned for the 85 to 90 positions for both levels to participate in this 22nd annual concert.

. Corey Nordal, director of the junior high band program in Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , will lead the junior high program.

Honor band members have the chance to earn scholarships - including the Robert K. Downs scholarship created as a memorial to Downs, a former Hart band director who also started the music program at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. . Downs appeared as an honor band guest conductor in 1987.

Students who are selected for the band prepare the concert music with the help of their school directors and rehearse re·hearse

 twice before the concert. The first rehearsal is run by directors from throughout the district, and the second is run by the guest conductor.

The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Hart, 24825 Newhall Ave., Newhall. Admission is $6. For information, call the Hart district office at (661) 259-0033.
