ANNE TO LAUNCH SAIL CLUB.

THE Princess Royal was set to open the new Liverpool Sailing Club building today.

The pounds 1.2m clubhouse replaces the original building, which was targeted by arsonists eight years ago.

Club members spent thousands of hours finishing the new building.

Last week, the club's president, Tom Workman, was named Merseyside Sports Volunteer of the Year in recognition of his work.

Volunteers put in two staircases, doors, windows and all the plumbing, as well as helping to install a wind turbine, CCTV cameras and security moat.

Princess Anne, who is president of the Royal Yachting Association, was expected at the waterfront site near John Lennon airport at lunchtime.
