The blaze was 40 percent contained by 5 p.m., a fire official said.

Traffic was halted through the area Monday afternoon as firefighters fought the blaze.

``No injuries were reported and no structures were lost or damaged in the fire, although we have contacted Animal Control and requested they help with some animal evacuations,'' said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Fire Inspector John Mancha. ``There's a lot of heavy brush in the area.''

Mancha said the fire was reported at 1:38 p.m. on Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling  between Fitch Avenue and Linda Vista Street.

More than 300 firefighters from 25 engine companies battled the blaze. They were helped by five helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft "Airplane" and "Aeroplane" redirect here. For other uses, see Airplane (disambiguation).
