The event raised nearly $10,000 to help reopen the wild animal sanctuary An animal sanctuary is a facility where animals are brought to live and be protected for the rest of their lives. Unlike animal shelters, sanctuaries do not seek to place animals with individuals or groups, instead maintaining each animal until his or her natural death. , which needs more water availability, animal enclosures and better sewage and drainage systems, said Waystation founder Martine Colette.

Colette expressed her gratitude to Waystation supporters and said she was thrilled with the turnout.

``The Waystation is still functioning, but we are unable to take in any new animals until facility standards are met,'' Colette said.

``We have helped more than 75,000 animals over the past 27 years. We are anxious to continue our work.''

``We have done several events like this in the past,'' Holleran said. ``But this is by far the largest.''

Arnold Fazekas, owner of a rare 1963 Amphicar, proudly displayed photographs of his vehicle floating on Lake Arrowhead. ``I really enjoy doing this,'' Fazekas said. ``This is a wonderful event, and everyone goes home with a smile on their face.''
