ANIMAL OFFICIALS CHECKING AREA FOR LICENSED CANINES.

Dog owners can expect a visit from Los Angeles County Animal Control revenue service officers in the next few weeks.

The officers are canvassing the Antelope Valley, checking with residents to make sure their pets are licensed and getting rabies shots.

``It helps us keep track of when they were vaccinated if we have an outbreak,'' said Animal Control Officer M. Wilson. ``Rabies is like AIDS - it kills.''

Dogs can be licensed on the spot from a revenue service officer. In Lancaster and Palmdale, it's $22, or $12 if the dog is spayed spay

The Animal Control Department makes an annual check of resident homes.

Officers are currently in Lancaster and will visit Palmdale next, followed by the rest of the Antelope Valley south of the Kern County line.

Later they will cover other areas of northern Los Angeles County, including Santa Clarita and Castaic.
