Empresas Avicolas Colsus, Arroyo, PR, Sept. 28 (Puerto Rico). FDA cited the manufacturer of medicated feed for indiscriminate storage of medicated and non-medicated fees and silos without cleaning control procedures and for failure to conduct periodic potency assays. The letter also stated that the company failed to maintain records to iden-tify the formulation and date of mixing for each and every production of medicated feeds. The inspection of Empresas took place Aug. 17 and 25.

New Vision Co-op, Worthington, MN, Sept. 11 (Minneapolis). The letter cited the maker of medicated feed for a bulk liquid scale that was "inoperable and has been for several years" and for drug inventory records maintained by theoretical balance without reconciliation with actual balances. The letter also stated that the firm had no records demonstrating the performance of assays and noted that the last time the firm's license was approved was in 1997. The inspection of New Vision took place July 10.

Garry Shank, Hagerstown, MD, Sept. 29 (Baltimore). The agency cited Shank for selling three bovines for slaughter with excess penicillin and for failure to maintain medication records indicating the dates of administration of medica-tions and withdrawal times. The inspection took place Aug. 29 and 31.

Wenck Feeds, Lidderdale, IA, Oct. 3 (Kansas City). FDA cited Wenck for failure to perform "the required three drug potency assays in 1999 on batches of medicated feeds containing Mecadox, a category II type A medicated article." The agency noted that its regulatory options included a "hearing on a proposal to withdraw your medicated feed mill license." A representative of the Iowa Department of Agriculture inspected Wenck Aug. 24.
