ANGLING: Canal success.Byline: Dave Houghton THE Bridgewater Canal The Bridgewater Canal is a navigable canal in the north west of England, connecting Runcorn and Manchester. Unusually, it is operated by the Manchester Ship Canal company, not by British Waterways. The entire canal is on one level and has no locks. at Leigh wouldn't be a venue high on the list for most,but Birkenhead's Neil Patterson is an ardent canal man and did well to win against some of the region's best. Drawn on the Mather Lane section, Neil -who is a member of the AIBC match group -pole fished along the far ban at 12 metres,catching skimmers and roach on punch bread. Another of the of the AIBC Birkenhead men in action was Gary Baugh, winning the Hampton Springs open sweepstake on Rock Pool with 78lb 1oz. He drew peg 28 then pole fished at 12 metres with soft pellet and was kept busy netting carp, chub Chub, in the Bible Chub (kŭb), in the Bible, an African people.
