ANGIE DICKINSON NAMED GODMOTHER OF COSTACLASSICA

ANGIE DICKINSON NAMED GODMOTHER OF COSTACLASSICA
 MIAMI, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Angie Dickinson, award-winning

screen and television star, will be Godmother of Costa Cruise Lines' new ship, CostaClassica, when it is christened in Fort Lauderdale on Jan. 24.
Dickinson is known worldwide for her role as Sgt. Pepper Anderson in the popular television series, "Police Woman," for which she received the Golden Globe Award for Best Dramatic Actress and two Emmy nominations. She also received awards and citations from various police groups, including the New York City Police Department. Her positive portrayal of a policewoman has reflected credit on police officers across the country and paved the way for police shows on television today.
During her outstanding film career, Dickinson starred in more than a dozen movies -- including "Rio Bravo," "Ocean's Eleven," and "Dressed to Kill" -- with John Wayne, Richard Burton, Peter Finch, Frank Sinatra, Gregory Peck, Tony Curtis, Robert Mitchum, Marlon Brando, Michael Caine, Burt Reynolds and Ronald Reagan as leading men.
As Godmother, Dickinson will christen the vessel the day before its maiden voyage. The christening is a traditional ceremony surrounded by pomp and circumstance, in which the Godmother officially names the vessel, breaks a bottle of champagne against its bow and asks that the ship, its crew and passengers be blessed with safe journeys.
"We are honored that Ms. Dickinson will be CostaClassica's Godmother for many reasons," said Lorenzo Pellicioli, president of Costa Cruise Lines. "Ms. Dickinson is known and respected worldwide for her talent and spirit. Little is known, however, about her selfless donation of countless hours to charities. Her contributions to society on many levels make her particularly appropriate to christen our ship."
At $325 million, CostaClassica is one of the most expensively built cruise ships, per passenger in the world. The ship will offer alternating seven-day eastern and western Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale, plus a "EuroLuxe Grand Tour" during the summer of 1992, retracing the voyages of Christopher Columbus visiting Europe, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and America.
