ANGELS WIN DESPITE WANING KEY HITS BY MOLINA, SPIEZIO OVERCOME SUBPAR DEFENSE ANGELS 5, MINNESOTA 4.

Byline: Gabe Lacques Staff Writer

ANAHEIM - Until the third week of September, when the Angels pay a visit to the perpetually rebuilding Texas Rangers Texas Rangers, mounted fighting force organized (1835) during the Texas Revolution. On Wednesday night, the Angels gave the Minnesota Twins The Minnesota Twins are a professional baseball team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Angels committed two errors that led to runs. They committed a baserunning gaffe that short-circuited a potential big inning. And their premature removal of starter Aaron Sele Aaron Helmer Sele (born June 25, 1970 in Golden Valley, Minnesota) is an MLB right-handed pitcher who plays for the New York Mets.

His family moved to Poulsbo, Washington, a Scandinavian town on the Kitsap Peninsula, where Aaron pitched for North Kitsap High School.
backfired when reliever Ben Weber William Jennings Bryan "Ben" Weber (born July 23, 1916 in St. Louis - died June 16, 1979 in New York) was America's first twelve tone composer.

Weber, completely self-taught as a composer, was in the late 30s part of a Chicago musical group that included George Perle and
gave up a game-tying single in the sixth inning.

No matter. Bengie Molina Benjamin José ("Bengie" or "Ben") Molina (born July 20 1974 in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico) is the starting catcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball. After being initially regarded as a "good glove, no hit" catcher, Molina has developed into one of the better  homered in the sixth inning to give the Angels the lead again. After the Twins tied it again in the seventh thanks in part to Molina's throwing error, Scott Spiezio Scott Edward Spiezio (born September 21, 1972 in Joliet, Illinois) is a Major League Baseball player with the St. Louis Cardinals. He is the son of former Cardinal Ed Spiezio.  smacked a two-out home run off reliever Juan Rincon for the eventual winning run. It was Spiezio's 13th homer this season, exceeding his 2002 total, and it knocked the Twins 2 1/2 games behind the Chicago White Sox The Chicago White Sox are a professional baseball team based in Chicago, Illinois. Brendan Donnelly, again showing a lack of dominance as he pitches through bone chips in his throwing elbow, loaded the bases by giving up three solidly hit singles in the eighth inning but struck out pinch hitter Michael Ryan to end the threat.

Troy Percival pitched the ninth inning for his 28th save as the Angels improved to 64-69.

It was an odd night, to be sure. Chone Figgins collected three hits, his sixth multihit game in his past 11 starts, but committed a key throwing error at shortstop. And Sele, who this season proved incapable of getting deep into games as he recovers from shoulder surgery, was so efficient he had a right to be chagrined when manager Mike Scioscia came to get him with two outs in the sixth inning.

Sele had thrown just 70 pitches and was one out away from completing six innings in consecutive starts for the first time this season. But Scioscia removed him for Weber, who had retired Torii Hunter five of the six times he'd faced him in his career.

This time, Weber broke Hunter's bat, but Hunter managed to dump the ball behind third base for an RBI RBI

single that tied the game 3-3.

Sele's victory was dashed and Weber suffered his second blown save this season.

To that point, Sele had earned a shot at victory. His curveball showed perhaps the most bite it had all season, as he struck out Doug Mientkiewicz on a 68-mph bender and Denny Hocking on one clocked at 71. Sele struck out four, gave up four hits and walked one.

Even when his defense betrayed him - like in the fifth inning, when Figgins' throwing error on a possible double-play grounder from Cristian Guzman led to an unearned run - Sele stayed the course. He got Shannon Stewart to ground to first and Luis Rivas on a fly to right to minimize the damage and retain a 3-2 lead.

The Angels' latest lineup, which had Robb Quinlan at designated hitter for the second time this season, had its way with Twins starter Kenny Rogers. Figgins led off the game with a triple, scored on Eric Owens' infield single, and Owens scored on Salmon's sacrifice fly for a quick 2-0 lead.

Rogers, who threw a perfect game against the Angels in 1994, gave up 11 hits and four runs in 5 2/3 innings, a total that could have been higher had Quinlan not been doubled off second on Owens' fly to center in the fourth.

But Spiezio's homer eventually made a winner of Weber (4-1) and sent the Twins to just their fourth loss in 11 games.
