ANGELS VICTIMS OF EARLY KO : KANSAS CITY 9, ANGELS 4.

Byline: Kevin Acee Orange County Register

Sometimes, there is nothing to analyze.

There are no new injuries and no freak plays and no other reason you lost besides the fact the other team began the game by getting a bunch of hits off your starting pitcher Noun 1. starting pitcher - (baseball) a pitcher who starts in a baseball game

From to the present, the Royals have played in Kauffman Stadium.  made the Angels feel this way Sunday, getting 10 hits off Omar Olivares Omar (Palqu) Olivares (born July 6 1967 in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico) is a former right-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the St. Louis Cardinals (1990-1994), Colorado Rockies (1995), Philadelphia Phillies (1995), Detroit Tigers (1996-97), Seattle Mariners  and making a big, early lead stand in a 9-4 victory.

``It's a bad feeling,'' said Olivares, who watched eight ground balls skip through the infield for singles. ``You go out there and all of a sudden it's 5-0, then it's 8-1 in the third inning. Your team has a long way to come back.''

At least the game was played.

Believe it or not, the Angels might have been worse off if Sunday's game had been postponed and a doubleheader was required today. The Angels are a 22-man team at present, minus third baseman third baseman

Percival came out of retirement on June 8, 2007 when he signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals[1].  (dizzy spells). All three are feeling better and might be available today. But they might not, and surviving a doubleheader with no backup catcher and a short-handed bullpen is a task manager Terry Collins wanted to avoid.

If the Kauffman Stadium drainage system had not been so efficient, Sunday's game would have been postponed. More than five inches of rain fell overnight, a downpour the Angels joked would have made Edison Field's surface unplayable for three days. As it was, the game was delayed slightly more than an hour, and rain fell sporadically through the first four innings. By that point, the game was essentially over.

The Royals batted around and scored five runs on six consecutive hits in the first inning and scored three unearned runs on a walk, an error by shortstop Gary DiSarcina and three consecutive singles in the third.

Thanks to a loss by Texas, the Angels retained a half-game lead in the AL West.

Injury update: Chuck Finley tries to find a deeper meaning in these ugly accidents that are interrupting his season.

``Somebody wants me to see something,'' Finley said with his usual sly smile. ``I must not be paying attention. They're telling me it's time to go on - change teams or something.''

Finley was back in uniform Sunday, two days after being struck on the left elbow by a searing sear 1

line drive off the bat of Jeff King. The elbow was wrapped and slightly swollen, though Finley had almost full flexibility and played catch. Amazingly, he is scheduled to start Thursday against the Yankees, just a day later than originally scheduled.

Percival was also back with the team Sunday, only hours after he walked from the hospital to the team hotel. Percival had been taken to St. Luke's Hospital on Saturday after complaining of off-and-on dizziness since Thursday. An MRI 1. (application) MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

It is not certain when the Angels will get their closer back, though Percival said he felt much better Sunday.
