ANGELS SWING PAST CLEVELAND.

Interim manager John McNamara There are different people named John McNamara:

hasn't been around the Angels for long, but he isn't short on ideas about how the team can break out of its slump: swing more and change the lineup.

``All you can do is go ahead and swing,'' he said before Tuesday's game with Cleveland. ``In certain situations, you go up there and see if you can swing your way out of it.''

McNamara, on advice from hitting coach Rod Carew
Rodney Cline "Rod" Carew (born October 1, 1945), is a former Major League Baseball player for the Minnesota Twins and California Angels from 1967 to 1985.

He was born to a Panamanian mother on a train in the town of Gatun, which at that time was in the Panama Canal

to seventh. He also flip-flopped the last two spots, putting Jorge Fabregas eighth and George Arias George Alberto Arias (born May 12, 1972, in Tucson, Arizona) is a former baseball player in the major leagues, and Japanese professional leagues. Biography
Arias was drafted by the California Angels in the seventh round of the 1993 draft after graduating from the
       ninth.

The result? A 4-2 win before 19,569 paid fans.

Edmonds homered, Anderson drove in the game-winner, Arias doubled and Fabregas collected a hit. Only DiSarcina was hitless.

The defense wasn't bad, either. Anderson threw out Sandy Alomar Sandy Alomar can refer to different people:

at the plate to prevent what would have been the tying run in the seventh. Fabregas didn't have time to get his body in front of the runner but still held on as Alomar ran into his glove. It preserved the team's 3-2 lead.

McNamara returned to the dugout after having to watch the previous two games in his office because of an injured calf muscle The calf or gastrosoleus is a pair of muscles—the gastrocnemius and soleus—at the back of the lower human leg.

July 27 - to tie the score 2-2. Snow also drove in a run in the eighth.

In between those shots, McNamara might have wanted to see the Angels swing more, but they weren't getting hits until the sixth. They managed just three off Cleveland starter Chad Ogea Chad Wayne Ogea (pronounced O-JAY) (born November 9, 1970 in Lake Charles, Louisiana) was a Major League Baseball pitcher. He made his MLB debut in 1994 and played his final game in 1999.  (6-4) in the first five innings before getting five in the next two innings.

After Edmonds homered with one out in the first, Ogea retired the next 10 batters before Chili Davis singled to left with two out in the fourth. Snow's homer led off the fifth.

In the sixth, Randy Velarde led off with a single and took third two outs later when second baseman Jose Vizcaino mishandled Davis' grounder up the middle. Anderson followed with a single to center to give the Angels a 3-2 lead. In the seventh California loaded the bases but failed to score.

Meanwhile, McNamara also saw Shawn Boskie (11-6) give up solo home runs to Albert Belle (his 39th) and Kenny Lofton, who hit a career-best-tying 12th. Boskie took over the league lead with 29 homers allowed.

On the other hand, Boskie also ranks among the league leaders with 2.7 walks per nine innings. He had one Tuesday night to go with his three strikeouts.

He won his first game in a month with a seven-inning effort, ending a three-game losing streak that saw his ERA jump from 4.21 to 5.11.

The seventh might have been his best. He gave up consecutive singles to Mark Carreon and Alomar, then fielded Vizcaino's bunt attempt and threw out Carreon at third. Lofton then followed with a single that ended with Anderson throwing out Alomar. A grounder by Omar Vizquel to first ended the inning.

Mike Holtz retired the one batter he faced in the eighth, as did Mike James with his two batters faced. Troy Percival pitched a one-hit ninth for his 28th save.
