    The Mariners went ahead 4-3 with two outs in the eighth when Rodriguez doubled home Rich Amaral from first.

    Seattle starter Sterling Hitchcock lasted seven innings, allowing three runs.

    Notes: The Angels assigned left-hander Brad Pennington to Triple-A Vancouver and brought up left-hander Mike Holtz from Double-A Midland on Thursday. Pennington, 27, was placed on waivers Monday and cleared them Thursday morning. He pitched in eight games with the Angels, posting no record and a 12.27 ERA in 7-1/3 innings. He was claimed off waivers from Boston on May 17. The 23-year-old Holtz was 1-2 with two saves and a 4.27 ERA in 33 games and 41 innings in Midland. He was picked in the 17th round of the June 1994 free-agent draft by the Angels.
