ANGELS NOTEBOOK: STREAK IS HARD TO EXPLAIN.

ANAHEIM -- Orlando Cabrera seems to be on an impressive on-base streak, but what does it mean in the overall scheme of things?

Cabrera had a first-inning walk and has reached base in 58 consecutive games, tying Barry Bonds' on-base streak from 2003 as the longest in baseball since 1960. Ted Williams holds the record of reaching base by hit walk or hit by pitch in 84 consecutive games during the 1949 season.

Baseball is a great keeper of numbers, but this streak seems hard to put into perspective.

Being tied for the longest streak in 46 years has its merits and it is impressive that the Angels' longest previous on- base streak was 36 by Chili Davis in 1995.

Yet not even manager Mike Scioscia could put the streak in its place.

``I don't even know where he is in it,'' Scioscia said. ``Where does that stack up? Does anybody know? Why since 1960? Is that the only time they started tracking this stuff? Like I said, where the (heck) does it stack up?''

Sibling rivalry not bitter: Jered Weaver finally arrived Saturday, a day after he was recalled when his brother Jeff was designated for assignment. Lost luggage between Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sacramento, while traveling with the Salt Lake club, delayed his arrival.

Weaver, who will pitch Monday against the Seattle Mariners, said he talked with his brother for at least a half hour Friday after the Angels made the awkward roster swap between brothers.

``He said, `Just keep doing your thing, I'll be all right. Just work hard. No hard feelings and no bad blood,'' Jered Weaver said. ``I definitely still have a lot of love for him and we're obviously still going to talk a lot and keep in touch.

``It's been baseball that's bonded us close together and obviously we're not going to let baseball take it away from us. There ain't no bad blood between the two of us, that's for sure.''

Improved game for Guerrero: Scioscia has been pleased to see a vintage Vladimir Guerrero emerge this week. < After a three-hit game Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies, Guerrero had two hits against the Dodgers on Friday and another hit Saturday.

Making an effort to hit to the opposite field has seemed to cure his habit of trying to yank the ball out of the park.

``It was really talked through with (hitting coach) Mickey (Hatcher) of staying inside the ball about three weeks ago and they've been trying to incorporate it,'' Scioscia said.
