TEMPE, Ariz. - John Lackey John Derran Lackey (born October 23, 1978, in Abilene, Texas) is a major league baseball starting pitcher from Abilene, Texas. He has played for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim his entire career.  was pulled from his one-inning assignment in Tuesday's intrasquad game because of a stiff shoulder and insisted there was nothing to worry about it.

Lackey has been experiencing a sore shoulder ever since throwing live batting practice on Saturday. He still expected to pitch Tuesday but experienced tightness while playing long toss.

Part of the reason Lackey is not worried is that he didn't experience any discomfort throwing his batting-practice session.

``It was more of a next-day thing,'' he said. ``I was pretty sore the next day and I got a pretty good rub, trying to rub it out, and it just hasn't quite gotten much better so hopefully we'll stay on it and a couple of days it will be fine.''

Lackey said Angels trainers performed resistance tests on his arm and his strength was more than adequate. He still is scheduled to make his first Cactus League start on Sunday or Monday.
