ANAHEIM - When Maicer Izturis Maicer Izturis (IPA pronunciation: [maɪsɛr ɪs'turɪs]) (born September 12, 1980 in Barquisimeto, Lara State, Venezuela) is a Major League Baseball infielder who plays for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  was acquired in the offseason in the Jose Guillen trade, the Angels knew they were getting a talented player.

But the Angels, who also received Juan Rivera Juan Rivera may refer to:

He bats and throws right-handed.  to a multiyear deal to be their starting shortstop.

Injuries have a way of changing plans. Cabrera was placed on the disabled list June 27 with a right elbow strain, and Izturis was given a regular spot in the starting lineup For the line of action figures, see .

Izturis has responded to the challenge. He is hitting .388 (21 for 54) since June 18. His current 13-game hitting streak In baseball, a hitting streak refers to the consecutive number of official games in which a player gets at least one base hit. Needless to say, Izturis is giving the Angels they expected - and more.

``Offensively, he is a guy who you can see has a good idea of what he needs to do at the plate,'' Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. ``What we are seeing right now - with some guys on the disabled list - is he's getting a chance to play and is playing terrific baseball. He has given us a big lift.''

``When I watch the games, it is a Catch-22,'' Salmon said. ``When I watch, afterward I kind of go into a slight depression that takes me a couple of days to get out of.''

If the 36-year-old doesn't suffer any setbacks, he could return sometime in September.

``I don't guess that I'm ahead of schedule, but I don't think I'm behind,'' Salmon said. ``I think I'm right on pace.''
