ANGELS NOTEBOOK: STARTERS ON PACE TO JOIN THE 200 CLUB.

ANAHEIM - The Angels have become so accustomed to their starters pitching deep into games, it practically goes unnoticed.

Entering Sunday, Angels starters were second in the AL with a 3.87 ERA, but, perhaps of greater significance, they were third with 687 innings pitched In baseball, innings pitched (IP) are the number of innings a pitcher has completed, measured by the number of batters and baserunners that are put out while the pitcher is in the game. Not since 1992 have the Angels had three starters pitch at least 200 innings. But after Colon's seven-inning, seven-hit, two-run performance, he's on pace to throw 229 innings.

Drafted by the California Angels in the 2nd round of the 1995 amateur draft out of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Washburn won the final game  was on a 200-inning pace before missing two starts with elbow inflammation; the Angels haven't had four 200-inning starters since 1971.

``I think we all take a lot of pride in getting deep into games,'' Colon said through an interpreter. ``I don't get caught up in the 200s, but I do make that a goal, because that means I'm keeping my team in the ballgame and pitching a lot of innings.''

Sunday was Colon's fourth consecutive seven-inning effort, and he's pitched into the seventh in 15 of his 23 starts. He struck out six Devil Rays in lowering his ERA to 3.56.

October 24, 1978 in LaPorte, Indiana) is a pitcher splitting time between the minor leagues and Major League Baseball for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He made his Major League debut with the then-Anaheim Angels on September 9, 2003.  should the Angels need another spot starter in place of Washburn, who is scheduled to return to the rotation Saturday.

Control problems - 17 walks in 22 innings - earned Gregg a trip to Triple-A Salt Lake on May 24, but he gave up one hit and one walk in a 4 1/3-inning relief appearance Saturday.
