Byline: Joe Haakenson

The Dodgers pulled a fast one on the Angels, who aren't too happy about it.

The annual Freeway Series The term Freeway Series refers to a series of baseball games played between Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of the American League and the Los Angeles Dodgers of the National League.  has been reduced from three games to one this spring because the Dodgers jumped at the opportunity to play host to the defending World Series champion New York Yankees Editing of this page by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled due to vandalism.  on April 3 and 4.

The Angels are upset for two reasons:

It was their turn to play host to two of the three games. They will play the Dodgers April 2 at Edison Field but lose the gate for a second game.

The Freeway Series games have been the final games before the start of the regular season, so facing major-league level competition is important. With most major-league teams already having their schedules set, the Angels could not find another major-league team to play. Instead, the Angels will play the Aguascalientes Railroadmen of the Mexican League The Mexican League may refer to one of two major baseball leagues in Mexico. ``The one thing that irritates me is we're a good team with good players and we can't get a game (against another major-league team),'' said Angels manager Terry Collins.

Collins added that he was appreciative to Aguascalientes and CSUF CSUF California State University, Fullerton

``I think they (Dodgers) realize we might be stealing their thunder,'' said the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  native. ``I think they know there's another good team in town. They have the tradition and they've earned it, but we're starting to step on their toes a little bit.''

Bumps and bruises: Pitcher Chuck Finley

Randy Velarde was hit on the left forearm by a pitch thrown by nonroster pitcher Reid Cornelius in an intrasquad game Thursday afternoon. Velarde had the forearm wrapped in ice, but no X-rays were planned. ``The perfect spot for him is on the forearm,'' Collins said, noting Velarde's well-developed physique.

The intrasquad game was called after six innings - one pitch after Velarde was hit.
