ANGELS NOTEBOOK: SCIOSCIA PLEASED WITH DEPTH BEHIND PLATE.

Byline: Gordon Verrell Staff Writer

ANAHEIM - Angels manager Mike Scioscia
Michael Lorri "Mike" Scioscia (born November 27 1958 in Morton, Pennsylvania) is a former catcher and current Major League Baseball manager. His last name is pronounced SO-shuh. He is often referred to by the nickname Sosh.
certainly knows a good catcher when he sees one - after all, he was the Dodgers' catcher for 13 years, played in two World Series and was twice an All-Star - and he says he likes the job Jorge Fabregas and Shawn Wooten William Shawn Wooten (born July 24, 1972 in Glendora, California), is a catcher who is currently with the New Orleans Zephyrs of the New York Mets organization. Previously, Wooten played with the Anaheim Angels (2000-03), the Philadelphia Phillies (2004), Boston Red Sox (2005) and  are doing in the absence of Bengie and Jose Molina, both on the disabled list.

Fabregas has been doing the bulk of the catching and was behind the plate Saturday night.

``Jorge has done a great job defensively,'' Scioscia said. ``He's getting the job done, calling a great game, and he's throwing the ball well. We're not worrying about his offense at all.

``In a perfect world, you'd like one guy out there,'' Scioscia said, ``but we're fortunate to have the catching depth we have.''

Bengie Molina Benjamin José ("Bengie" or "Ben") Molina (born July 20 1974 in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico) is the starting catcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball. After being initially regarded as a "good glove, no hit" catcher, Molina has developed into one of the better  (strained right hamstring), on the DL since May 5, will likely begin a rehab assignment later this week.

--Not just a DH: Jeff DeVanon, who homered Friday night in his first big-league game of the season after the Angels recalled him from Triple-A Salt Lake when they unloaded Glenallen Hill
Glenallen Hill (born March 22, 1965 in Santa Cruz, California) is a former outfielder in Major League Baseball who played for 13 seasons. Hill played with the Toronto Blue Jays (1989-1991), Cleveland Indians (1991-1993), Chicago Cubs (1993-1994, 1998-2000) San Francisco

       again Saturday night.

That doesn't mean DeVanon will merely DH, Scioscia said, even if he did accomplish in three at-bats what it took Hill to do in 66: hit a home run.

--Glaus still amazes: Scioscia continues to marvel over 24-year-old third baseman third baseman

Previously, Glaus played with the Anaheim Angels (1998-2004) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (2005). , who drove in three runs Friday night, two of them with his 15th home run, and made a splendid ofalanced throw on a bunt play.

``I just keep shaking my head,'' Scioscia said. ``Not only for him to be so talented at such a young age, but to be so productive. ...''

--Bad news from the farm: Right-hander Steve Green For other people named Steve Green, see .

Steve Green (b. August 1, 1956 in Portland, Oregon) is a Contemporary Christian music singer notable for his vocal range (tenor 3) and flexible solo style.
, one of the Angels' top pitching prospects who is 6-1 at Salt Lake, left Friday night's game after only 16 pitches. It is feared he suffered ligament damage. He'll be examined Monday in Anaheim by Angels physician Dr. Lewis Yocum.

--Let's play some `D': Whether or not it was by design, the Angels came up with the perfect anthem singer for Fielders Glove Night: Coach D

ANGELS vs. KANSAS CITY Kansas City, two adjacent cities of the same name, one (1990 pop. 149,767), seat of Wyandotte co., NE Kansas (inc. 1859), the other (1990 pop. 435,146), Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties, NW Mo. (inc. 1850).

Matchup: Ramon Ortiz (3-4, 4.64 ERA) vs. Kansas City's Mac Suzuki (2-4, 3.91). Suzuki is the first Japanese-born player to play in the American League and the third to play in the majors, but the first to get to the big leagues without first playing professionally in Japan. He's been in the majors since 1996, when he signed with Seattle after 4 1/2 years in the minor leagues in the U.S. He's yet to beat the Angels in six appearances. Last year Suzuki opened the season 3-0, then suffered his first loss June 21 at Anaheim, 3-1. The Royals have been troublesome for Ortiz, who's started against them twice in his career, both losses, and given up nine earned runs in just 10 innings on the mound. With a win today Ortiz can climb back into the plus column. His career record: 13-13. But, he hasn't won for more than a month, since beating Toronto on April 28.
