Michael Lorri "Mike" Scioscia (born November 27 1958 in Morton, Pennsylvania) is a former catcher and current Major League Baseball manager. His last name is pronounced SO-shuh. He is often referred to by the nickname Sosh.
strongly denied a story in Thursday's Los Angeles Times Los Angeles Times

which cited unnamed sources in the Dodgers organization who claimed he was fired after managing at Triple-A Albuquerque last season.

The report said Dodgers general manager Kevin Malone

fired Scioscia ``because his staff didn't think he could manage.'' The report also quoted Malone saying Scioscia wanted to be at the major-league level but they didn't have room.

``It's not true,'' Scioscia said. ``I was not fired and I did not ask for a spot on the major-league staff. I had meetings with (assistant GM) Bill Geivett and Kevin Malone, really long-range as to what my role in the organization would be and what my input would be. But there couldn't be any clear-cut plan because they were still in transition. The organization was still being reshaped.''

The Dodgers announced that Scioscia resigned during the first week of September, right after he guided the Dukes to a 65-74 record in the Pacific Coast League For the high school sports league, see .

``Today he gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up,'' Scioscia said of Percival. ``It's not like he stepped it up to any appreciable level to say, hey, he's ready to get on the mound. But the sensations he had before are not there and that's encouraging.''

Etherton is eligible to come off the DL on Sunday.
