said Saturday that he's confident he made the right decision.

Weaver had won all four of his starts in the big leagues while compiling a 1.37ERA.

``Yes, on June 17, sending down Jered to Salt Lake was the right move to make,'' Scioscia said. ``Right now, we have six starters and we only need five. This is the best solution until things get settled.

``And one starter isn't going to carry us. We're very excited about Jered, and I won't be surprised if he's pitching with us soon, but he's not going to make or break us from making the playoffs. We have more pressing needs than Jered Weaver being on the staff.''

Weaver was sent down because Bartolo Colon, the 2005 AL Cy Young award winner, is ready to pitch again after a lengthy stay on the disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder.
