Byline: DOUG PADILLA Douglas ("Doug") Padilla (born October 4, 1956 in Oakland, California) is a former middle and long distance runner from the United States, who won the overall Grand Prix 1985 and the World Cup 5000m race in 1985.   Staff Writer

-- Forget that scramble to find a starter for Tuesday's game at Texas: Ervin Santana Ervin Ramon Santana (born December 12, 1982 in La Romana, Dominican Republic) is a right-handed starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Career
Santana was a starting pitcher for the Angels' double-A affiliate, the Arkansas Travelers early in 2005, where he
will take his regular spot in the rotation.

Santana's status was in question ever since he was hit by a line drive in the left knee during the first inning Thursday at Cleveland. He was removed from that game after throwing just five pitches and an X-ray on his knee was negative.

Santana pitched a light bullpen session Sunday and also did some agility drills before it was decided he was well enough to make his next start.

``We've gotten clearance to put a pitching screen up there when he pitches,'' manager Mike Scioscia
Michael Lorri "Mike" Scioscia (born November 27 1958 in Morton, Pennsylvania) is a former catcher and current Major League Baseball manager. His last name is pronounced SO-shuh. He is often referred to by the nickname Sosh.
joked. ``That will be something new.''

Santana's extra work Sunday was along the lines of pitchers' fielding practice in spring training. Fielding comebackers took up most of the time.

``Over a whole career, it's part of life as a pitcher,'' Scioscia said about dealing with hard-hit comebackers. ``That's one of the reasons why it looks mundane but in spring training comebackers are part of the everyday practicing. Reacting to a ball off the bat is why that drill is so important.''

Anderson out again: Garret Anderson Garret Joseph Anderson (born June 30, 1972 in Los Angeles, California) is a Major League Baseball left fielder who has played his entire career for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  was out of the lineup for the second consecutive day as he gets treatment for lower back stiffness. Anderson is not expected to be used today, either.

Maicer Izturis Maicer Izturis (IPA pronunciation: [maɪsɛr ɪs'turɪs]) (born September 12, 1980 in Barquisimeto, Lara State, Venezuela) is a Major League Baseball infielder who plays for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  was also out of Sunday's lineup with a tight hamstring. He was available as a defensive replacement.

Nobody's perfect: A day after Vladimir Guerrero Vladimir Alvino Guerrero (born February 9, 1976 in Don Gregorio, Nizao, Dominican Republic), and known in his native Dominican Republic as Miquéas (Spanish for Micah), is a Major League Baseball right fielder who plays for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  made two costly mistakes on the base paths, Scioscia said those types of gaffes are acceptable within the framework of the team's offensive strategy.

``If you're going to be aggressive, you're going to run into some ugly outs,'' Scioscia said. ``It's just going to happen. You hope it's minimized.

Sometimes it's a little more than you're comfortable with but it comes with the package.

``And we're going to stay aggressive because the alternative is station-to-station and we're not going to able to maximize our offense because of our depth in our lineup is still developing.''
