ANGELS NOTEBOOK: SALMON SNAPS HIS HR SKID.

Byline: Joe Haakenson Staff Writer

Right fielder right fielder

The player who defends right field.

Noun 1. right fielder - the person who plays right field

 Tim Salmon
Timothy James "Tim" Salmon (born August 24, 1968 in Long Beach, California) is a former Major League Baseball right fielder/designated hitter who played his entire career with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim franchise.
recovered from a sprained left wrist and returned to the Angels on July 17, but it took him until Saturday - 76 at-bats - to get that first home run.

But by no means does the homer indicate Salmon is ready to be the hitter he was before the injury - .347, seven homers, 25 RBI RBI

Noun 1. rbi - a run that is the result of the batter's performance; "he had more than 100 rbi last season"
    run batted in
in 26 games. Salmon's wrist is not 100 percent and it won't be the rest of this season. There are days it feels weak.

In 22 games since coming back, Salmon is hitting .165 (13 for 79) with one homer and eight RBI.

``My mind's saying one thing and my body's doing something else,'' Salmon said. ``This is what I'm going to have for the rest of the year, so I don't make excuses for it. The doctors say it's going to take an extended period (of rest) to get over this.''

The injury occurred May 3 when Salmon attempted to make a sliding catch in right field. Initially, the team hoped Salmon would be out only a few days. But it was soon learned it was much more serious.

``This is an injury they said could take four months just to heal,'' he said. ``I've talked to guys who said it takes the whole offseason, but I still have to go out and play today.''

Carew banged up: Add hitting coach Rod Carew
Rodney Cline "Rod" Carew (born October 1, 1945), is a former Major League Baseball player for the Minnesota Twins and California Angels from 1967 to 1985.

He was born to a Panamanian mother on a train in the town of Gatun, which at that time was in the Panama Canal
to the Angels' list of walking wounded Walking wounded is a term used in first aid and triage to indicate injured persons who are of a relatively low priority. These patients are conscious and breathing and usually have only (relatively) minor injuries; thus they are capable of walking. . While throwing soft-toss to rookie Trent Durrington Trent John Durrington (born August 27, 1975 in Sydney, Australia) is a Major League Baseball player who is presently under a Minor League contract with the Cleveland Indians. He is primarily a second baseman. , Carew took a batted ball "Fly ball" and "line drive" redirect here. For the dog sport, see flyball.

In baseball, a batted ball is any ball that, after a pitch, is contacted by the batter's bat.
on the right foot and suffered a nasty bruise.

Durrington has been up with the big-league club for only a few days, so injuring a Hall of Famer wasn't exactly getting off on the right foot.

``No, it's not real good,'' Durrington said in his heavy Australian accent. ``Not when he's going to be the one helping me. I'm trying to stay as low key as possible. He didn't say too much at first, then he took his shoe off. Troy (Glaus) and I had a bit of a giggle, and Rod laughed too. He took it in pretty good spirits.''

Some players joked about looking into the cost of a one-way ticket to Australia, to which Carew responded: ``Get one for me, too.''

Outfielder Garret Anderson was not in the lineup for the second consecutive day because of a sore left ankle, injured Friday when he slipped in the outfield. . . . Jim Edmonds got his second start of the season in center on Sunday.
