ANGELS NOTEBOOK: SALMON'S WISH: ALL DAY GAMES.

Byline: Matt McHale Daily News Staff Writer

Tim Salmon
Timothy James "Tim" Salmon (born August 24, 1968 in Long Beach, California) is a former Major League Baseball right fielder/designated hitter who played his entire career with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim franchise.
finished April with a good chance to be named American League American League (AL)

One of the two associations of professional baseball teams in the U.S. and Canada designated as major leagues; the other is the National League (NL).
Player of the Month. He was among the league leaders in average (.349), home runs (7) and runs batted in (23).

As good as he has been, Salmon is especially effective during day games. Unfortunately for him, the Angels switched almost all of their Sunday games to 5 p.m. starts, including tonight's game against the Chicago White Sox The Chicago White Sox are a professional baseball team based in Chicago, Illinois. The White Sox are a member of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From to the present, the White Sox have played in U.S. . Fortunately, the four-game series concludes Monday with a 1 p.m. start.

in three days games this season.

``That's how the game is supposed to be played,'' said Salmon, 9 for 13 with four homers and 14 RBI in three day games this season. ``A day game.''

Opposing teams have complained about the late starts in Anaheim. They are usually on a plane out of other cities about the time Sunday games start in Anaheim.

    Salmon isn't a complainer.

    ``I've begged,'' he said.

The quick start has brought the usually soft-spoken Salmon more attention. But manager Terry Collins says that quiet man tag isn't exactly true.

``Let's just say he's a much different person on the bench than the one you see in public,'' Collins said. ``He was a DH a lot last year (because of a foot injury) and that was an adjustment. I think the time on the bench kind of got to him. He got pretty loud sometimes.''

    Catching on: Charlie O'Brien
This article is about the major league baseball player. For other people named Charles O'Brien see this disambiguation page.

    Charles Hugh O'Brien
made his eighth start of the season behind the plate and threw out two base runners. O'Brien always starts when left-hander Chuck Finley
Charles Edward Finley (Born:November 26 1962 in Monroe, Louisiana) is a former left-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball. He played for the California Angels (later the Anaheim Angels) from 1986 to 1999 and the Cleveland Indians and St.
pitches, which helps because Finley keeps runners close at first.

But Dodgers fans who have watched Todd Hundley struggle this year throwing out baserunners, take heart. In 1995, O'Brien, then with Atlanta, threw out just 8 of 79 runners (10.1 percent).

O'Brien entered Friday's game in the ninth replacing Todd Greene. Greene, still not 100 percent since October 1997 shoulder surgery, thinks he can play three times a week right now, but Collins said he would be happy if Greene could do it by July.

Quick hits: The young White Sox have been one of the league's pleasant surprises this season, finishing 11-9 in April. It gets tougher from here, though. Chicago's April opponents had a .451 winning percentage last season. Opponents in May had a .524 winning percentage in 1998, including Cleveland and New York New York, state, United States
