ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- As teams move to fill needs, the Angels continue to do an internal roster shuffle.

Struggling Kendry Morales Kendrys Morales Rodriguez (born June 20, 1983 in Fomento, Cuba) is a Major League Baseball player in his rookie season as a first baseman for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He is a switch hitter and throws right-handed.  was sent back to Triple-A Salt Lake as Curtis Pride's contract was purchased. Morales batted just .223 in June and had improved that slightly in July (.259), but the recent emergence of Robb Quinlan Robb William Quinlan (born March 17, 1977 in St. Paul, Minnesota) is a Major League Baseball player. He currently plays third base for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Quinlan graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1999, obtaining a degree in marketing and communications.  already led to a reduction in Morales' playing time.

Pride, who was batting .321 at Salt Lake with 41 RBIs and 21 steals, will give the Angels a left-handed presence off the bench. Morales was batting .240 and had not hit a home run since July 3.

So shouldn't that move make the Angels pick up the pace as they search for somebody who can help on offense?

``You're always trying to improve whether another team improves or not,'' Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. ``I don't think it increases your motivation to improve your ballclub. If teams don't do anything it doesn't mean `OK, we don't have to do anything because other teams didn't.'''

While the Angels had been mentioned prominently in trades for run producers like Miguel Tejada, Bobby Abreu and Alfosnso Soriano, they're merely an afterthought when those names come up now.

A move like the one the White Sox made certainly gets noticed, though.

Cabrera didn't care to respond when asked if the Angels need to add an offensive player via trade. But he did say he he wouldn't object to an addition, noting the subtle difference.

McPherson recalled: Dallas McPherson was recalled from his rehab assignment, but not so he can play. McPherson injured his back again over the weekend and has been shut down. He is expected to see a back specialist today in Phoenix.

Santana makes adjustments: Ervin Santana takes the mound tonight for the first time since he walked eight batters in 4 1/3 innings at Kansas City on Thursday. He worked on a mechanical adjustment with pitching coach Bud Black between starts.

Santana believes he was leaning his head too much toward first base which threw off his delivery.
