Career , on the disabled list with inflammation in his right hip, made an unexpectedly quick return to Angel Stadium on Monday.

--A's heat up: The A's, who were 15 games below .500 on May 29, have charged back into contention by winning 15 of their past 20 games entering Monday's contest.

Scioscia said he isn't surprised by Oakland's recent success, and that the A's winning formula can be found in its normal spot -on the mound.

``It's their most balanced pitching staff we've seen in six years here,'' Scioscia said of the A's pitchers.
