ANGELS NOTEBOOK: RELIEVER ACQUIRED VIA TRADE.

Byline: Joe Haakenson Staff Writer

ANAHEIM - The Angels made a trade Tuesday, but it wasn't the one their fans were hoping for.

While Stoneman and Angels manager Mike Scioscia have steered clear of saying they had a need for a situational lefty, Christiansen is just that. Left-handed hitters are batting .250 against Christiansen this season, right-handers .318.

--Erstad stays put: Darin Erstad is staying at first base, at least for now. While the Angels considered moving him to center field, Scioscia and his staff have ruled against it because they believe their defense is better with Erstad at first.

The decision means Chone Figgins will get the majority of starts in center, with Robb Quinlan and Maicer Izturis platooning at third base. Juan Rivera and Casey Kotchman will share time as the designated hitter, and Steve Finley will be relegated to a bench role.

Scioscia moved Garret Anderson up to No. 3 in the order Tuesday ahead of cleanup hitter Vladimir Guerrero, and dropped Erstad to No. 6.

--Salmon takes BP: Tim Salmon is taking batting practice and said he feels like he's in spring training. He'll remain with the club for the rest of the season, both home and away, but he has no notion he'll be activated and get any at-bats this season.

Salmon said his biggest concern was his shoulder, but it is ``95 percent'' healed and the best it has felt in five years.
