He was 3 for 3 on Friday night against Seattle.

``When he came in here last season we didn't see the Troy Glaus we knew we had because he was tired,'' Angels manager Terry Collins said. ``There was a lot of things that went into last season but I can tell you he's using the whole field now.

``All everyone talked about last year was the power and how he appeared to want to hit homers. Right now all he wants to do is hit the ball hard and he knows the homers will come. Another thing is he's fresher and he feels good, which always makes a difference.''

Helping Hasegawa: Collins also talked about struggling reliever Shigetoshi Hasegawa Shigetoshi Hasegawa (Japanese: 長谷川 滋利) (born August 1, 1968 in Kakogawa, Hyōgo, Japan) was a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Seattle Mariners from 2002 through 2005. . He gave up a three-run homer in the ninth Friday against Seattle, but the Angels had a comfortable 9-2 cushion and held on for a 9-5 victory. Hasegawa is without a save in five appearances and has a 6.75 ERA.

``With all the Japanese pitchers, there is always a hesitation and a pause,'' Collins said. ``He's rushing through his (motion) and that's not how he usually pitches. He'll be fine. Next time we'll slow him down and look at the tape.''

By the numbers: In their past eight games (heading into Saturday), the Angels were batting .346 with 27 doubles, one triple, nine home runs (two grand slams) and 56 RBI. The club averaged 7.8 runs per game during that span.
