``I know coming in, that was their first choice this season,'' Quinlan said of McPherson. ``I think about it a little bit. I know I haven't played the best, but I also know I can play a lot better.''

``I do think about it sometimes, but you can't,'' he said. ``You can't worry about who's coming up, who's coming down. With the bad luck we've had with injuries, things have a way of taking care of themselves.''

--Escobar on track: Kelvim Escobar had an incident-free 57-pitch, three- inning rehab start at Modesto on Thursday, and if he has a strong bullpen session today, Scioscia said Escobar will make his season debut Tuesday against Seattle.

Escobar, who suffered elbow inflammation at the end of spring training, said he felt no pain during the start and feels he's ready to go.

``I can't wait. I think I'm ready,'' Escobar said. ``I want to get out there and do my thing. I threw all my pitches. My elbow feels great.''
