ANGELS NOTEBOOK: PERCIVAL MIGHT BE PITCHING PAST 2004.

Byline: Gabe Lacques Staff Writer

SEATTLE - Troy Percival Troy Eugene Percival (born August 9, 1969 in Fontana, California) is a Major League Baseball reliever on the St. Louis Cardinals. Percival came out of retirement on June 8, 2007 when he signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals[1].  is prepared to extend his career beyond next season, if the Angels are interested in having him. Sunday, Percival showed why he's not yet ready to ponder retirement.

Placed in a tough position by catcher Tom Gregorio's throwing error, Percival responded by striking out two Mariners and getting Randy Winn Dwight Randall "Randy" Winn (born June 9, 1974 in Los Angeles, California) is an outfielder for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball. Winn is a switch hitter, and throws right-handed.  to pop out to end the game, stranding the tying run at third in the Angels' 2-1 victory at Safeco Field Coordinates:

It was Percival's 33rd save of the season, a campaign marked by the Angels' ineffectiveness and his own trip to the disabled list with a hip problem. He's signed through 2004, when he'll make $8 million. Percival says he doesn't want to pitch anywhere else, and now says he's quite eager to return if the Angels will have him.

``If they came to me and wanted to move me beyond next year, I'd say, let's get it done,'' Percival said.

General manager Bill Stoneman
William Hambly Stoneman III (born April 7, 1944, in Oak Park, Illinois) is a consultant for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball. From 1999 to October 15, 2007, he served as the general manager of the Angels.
said he won't comment on contracts beyond this season. But if the Angels are as active in free agency as they've signaled they'll be this offseason, it figures Percival might have to take a cut in pay to remain beyond '04.

From a baseball standpoint, Percival is still going strong. His fastball reached 98 mph Sunday, but more importantly, he says his curveball is once again effective.

``The curveball is back,'' said Percival, who's had to adjust his throwing motion and windup after his hip injury. ``You guys thought it was back before, but it wasn't. It's back now.''

--Hudler update: The attorney for suspended Angels broadcaster Rex Hudler Rex Allen Hudler (nicknamed the "Wonder Dog") (born on September 2, 1960, in Tempe, Arizona) is a former Major League Baseball utilityman. He played a total of thirteen seasons after being a first round draft pick of the New York Yankees in 1978.  expects a resolution in his arrest for marijuana possession as soon as today, but a resolution might come too late for Hudler to return to the booth this season.

Jim Wyrsch, Hudler's attorney, has been attempting to resolve the charges of marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia drug paraphernalia Controlled paraphernalia Substance abuse As defined in a regulatory context, DP is a hypodermic syringe, needle, metal or plastic (snorting) tube, or other instrument or implement or combination adapted for the administration of controlled  with prosecutors in Kansas City Kansas City, two adjacent cities of the same name, one (1990 pop. 149,767), seat of Wyandotte co., NE Kansas (inc. 1859), the other (1990 pop. 435,146), Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties, NW Mo. But the team does not have a ready-made reaction to whatever punishment Hudler might receive. In cases like Hudler's, typical punishments usually involve merely community service, probation or a small fine. Just 12 games remain in the Angels' season, nine of which will be televised by Fox Sports Net or Channel 9.
