Byline: Doug Padilla Douglas ("Doug") Padilla (born October 4, 1956 in Oakland, California) is a former middle and long distance runner from the United States, who won the overall Grand Prix 1985 and the World Cup 5000m race in 1985.  Staff Writer

TEMPE, Ariz. - Dallas McPherson Dallas Lyle McPherson (born July 23, 1980 in Greensboro, North Carolina) is a professional baseball player, and third baseman for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Career  will try to return to action today after taking the past few days off because of a strained muscle in his side.Manager Mike Scioscia
Michael Lorri "Mike" Scioscia (born November 27 1958 in Morton, Pennsylvania) is a former catcher and current Major League Baseball manager. His last name is pronounced SO-shuh. He is often referred to by the nickname Sosh.
said McPherson injured himself earlier this week in a batting-practice session.

``It really doesn't look like it's anything that will set him back for any amount of time but that's why they wanted to be conservative about it,'' Scioscia said. ``It's been a couple of days and he'll get back into baseball activities (today).''

McPherson is coming off a hip injury last year that affected him most of the season and limited him to 61 games. He had surgery for an impingement in his left him Aug. 30.

McPherson was an early arrival in camp as he tried to rehab his hip injury. He already has missed time this spring with a skin condition that was so irritating it caused him to miss two nights of sleep and make a hospital visit.

In four games this spring, McPherson is 2 for 9 with a double.

--Still proud of his work: John Lackey John Derran Lackey (born October 23, 1978, in Abilene, Texas) is a major league baseball starting pitcher from Abilene, Texas. He has played for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim his entire career.  said that not even his pride was hurt after his first outing of the spring ended rather unsightly. Lackey gave up four walks and a run in his only inning of work during a split-squad game against the Cubs in Mesa, Ariz.

--Painful day: Lackey might have had a pain-free outing, but others weren't so lucky. Robb Quinlan Robb William Quinlan (born March 17, 1977 in St. Paul, Minnesota) is a Major League Baseball player. He currently plays third base for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Quinlan graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1999, obtaining a degree in marketing and communications.  fouled a ball off his left shin and left in the first inning, while Nick Gorneault made it to the second inning before a left-wrist injury ended his day.

X-rays on both were negative. Quinlan left the ballpark on crutches and was diagnosed with a contusion CONTUSION, med. jurisp. An injury or lesion, arising from the shock of a body with a large surface, which presents no loss of substance, and no apparent wound. If the skin be divided, the injury takes the name of a contused wound. Vide 1 Ch. Pr, 38; 4 Carr. & P. 381, 487, 558, 565; 6 Carr. . Gorneault hurt himself sliding into second base and was diagnosed with a bone bruise. Both are listed as day to day.

--Not glad Vlad: Vladimir Guerrero appeared annoyed Friday when asked to repeat his stance on playing in the World Baseball Classic

. On Thursday, ESPN.com reported that Guerrero would join the Dominican Republic team. He was quick to deny the report and say he would remain in Angels camp all spring.

When a formal interview was requested, Guerrero declined and told a team representative that he will not play in the WBC WBC white blood cell; see leukocyte.

and that he never felt any pressure from representatives of the Dominican club to participate.

--Going swimmingly: Tim Salmon's quest to make the 25-man roster continued to be positive as he collected two more hits against the Cubs. Both teams elected to use the designated hitter even tough the game was played in a National League park. Salmon is 8 for 16 in Cactus League games, but does not have an extra-base hit. He has yet to play in the field.
