ANGELS NOTEBOOK: KOTCHMAN BREAKS OUT WITH 3 HITS.

ANAHEIM - The Angels lacked much offensive spark the first five games of their homestand, averaging just 2.6 runs a game and struggling to capitalize with runners on base.

Casey Kotchman Casey John Kotchman (born February 22, 1983 in St. Petersburg, Florida) is a Major League Baseball first baseman for Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He hit his first Major League home run on August 5 2005. In 47 games in 2005, Kotchman had 7 home runs and 22 runs batted in.  had been part of the problem, going five at-bats without a hit. On Sunday, the rookie first baseman delivered three hits, including a three-run home run in the second inning that started the Angels toward a 5-3 victory over Seattle.

Kotchman's home run was his seventh of the season, all in his past 22 games.

``It's just a situation where I'm trying to drive the ball,'' Kotchman said.

 fell behind with three consecutive balls to Kotchman, who started at first base in place of Darin Erstad Darin Charles Erstad (born June 4, 1974 in Jamestown, North Dakota) is a first baseman/center fielder in Major League Baseball currently with the Chicago White Sox. Prior to 2007, he had played his entire career with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim franchise (1996-2006). .

Despite having just 66 major-league games under his belt, Kotchman received the veteran's treatment from the Angels' coaching staff. He got the green light on a 3-0 pitch and deposited a Harris fastball into the seats in right field.

    Guerrero hit his team-high 28th home run in the third inning.

    --Finley back in lineup: Outfielder Steve Finley, who had not played since going 0 for 4 and committing two errors in center field nine days ago at Tampa Bay, was back in the lineup. He started in center and went 1 for 3, getting his first hit since Aug. 25.

    ``Fin swung the bat very well,'' Scioscia said. ``We've got some guys swinging the bat well right now, and it won't hurt if Fin's one guy to jump up and swinging like he can.''

    --Also: Second baseman Adam Kennedy, in a 0-for-19 slump, sat out. Chone Figgins played second base. ... Garret Anderson went 0 for 4 to snap his season-high 10-game hitting streak.
