ANGELS NOTEBOOK: GUILLEN TO VISIT DOCTOR.

Byline: Gabe Lacques Staff Writer

CLEVELAND - Left fielder Jose Guillen flew back to Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  on Saturday night and will have his swollen right wrist examined today by team physician Dr. Craig Milhouse, a situation that could sideline him for several games.

, has complained of weakness in his right hand and wrist for the past two weeks and had diagnostic tests performed Friday night. The Angels did not make the results available Saturday.

After leaving Friday's win after six innings, Guillen said his hand ``feels heavier than hell'' when he swings.

``It got to the point where it was impacting his swing,'' manager Mike Scioscia

said. ``He relies so much on his hands, he has so much hand speed. With his right hand in the state it's in, it's tough to get that speed, and it's affecting him.''

Scioscia said the club ``isn't ruling out the possibility of Jose playing Tuesday'' when the Angels return home to face Toronto. The club originally termed his injury similar to carpal tunnel syndrome carpal tunnel syndrome: see repetitive stress injury.

With Jarrod Washburn Jarrod Michael Washburn (born August 13, 1974 in La Crosse, Wisconsin) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Seattle Mariners. Drafted by the California Angels in the 2nd round of the 1995 amateur draft out of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Washburn won the final game  limited to five innings and Brendan Donnelly unavailable, Shields bridged the gap to the ninth inning, striking out three and compelling Scioscia to have set-up man Francisco Rodriguez sit down in the eighth inning. Shields' 92 innings lead AL relievers.

``Shieldsey's amazing,'' Scioscia said. ``We see him go out and take the ball every time. He's probably been our most valuable relief pitcher. We could've gone through five pitchers or six tonight. We got away with just three.''

--McPherson reaches 40: Triple-A Salt Lake third baseman Dallas McPherson hit his 40th home run of the season Friday night, and he could receive a call-up, along with reliever Matt Hensley, after the minor-league season concludes Monday.
