--Mo sighting: Big Mo Vaughn
Maurice Samuel 'Mo' Vaughn (born December 15, 1967 in Norwalk, Connecticut), nicknamed "Hit Dog", (a nickname given to him by his Omega Psi Phi fraternity brothers at Seton Hall University) was a Major League Baseball first baseman from 1991 to 2003.

``Mo's presence, wherever he is, is big,'' Scioscia said. ``But I know how tough it is for a guy ... any guy on a long rehab ... to be around a club and not be able to play.

``He'll be missed. No one person will be asked to make up for Mo. It's good to see him healing.''

--Washburn rehab start: Disabled left-hander Jarrod Washburn Jarrod Michael Washburn (born August 13, 1974 in La Crosse, Wisconsin) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Seattle Mariners. Drafted by the California Angels in the 2nd round of the 1995 amateur draft out of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Washburn won the final game  will make a rehab start Tuesday night for the Angels' Rancho Cucamonga affiliate in an exhibition game against UC Riverside, then make at least one more rehab start before he'll be re-evaluated. It's the second consecutive season Washburn has opened the season on the DL.

Washburn is one of six Angels on the 40-man roster on the disabled list. The others are second baseman Adam Kennedy, shortstop Gary DiSarcina (60-day), first baseman Mo Vaughn (60-day), outfielder Kimera Bartee and left-hander Rendy Espina.

--Around the horn: The Angels' pitching rotation is set for the first couple of weeks. Left-hander Scott Schoenweis will start Tuesday's season opener in Texas, followed by Pat Rapp, Ramon Ortiz, Matt Wise and, for now, Ismael Valdes. A lot of times, teams can get by with just four starters early in the season because of built-in days off. Not this year.

``We play six games in a row to open the season,'' said Scioscia, scanning the schedule, ``then we get a day off, and then play 13 in a row. We don't have that luxury (of using just four starters) this year.'' ... The Angels finished spring training with a 15-19-1 exhibition record, the third year in a row and sixth time in the last 10 years they finished below .500.
