ANGELS NOTEBOOK: FINLEY LOOKING POWERLESS.

Byline: Joe Haakenson Staff Writer

 - Steve Finley's first-half struggles were attributed to a sore right shoulder, the result of a run-in with the wall at Angel Stadium in the second game of the season. Finley says his shoulder is back to normal now, but his bat still looks a little soggy.

Since returning from the disabled list July 14, Finley is hitting .250 (13 for 52), but most notable has been his inability to drive the ball. He hasn't homered since June 10 and he has only two extra-base hits, both doubles, in the 15 games since coming off the DL.

``It's coming,'' said Finley, who hit 36 homers last season. ``I look at what I do in batting practice as to what I can do, and it's coming. I'm able to extend through the ball unlike before.''

But Finley acknowledged he still has some work to do, to undo the flaws in his swing the shoulder injury initiated.

``I created some bad habits,'' he said. ``If I stayed out at the beginning of the season I wouldn't have created those bad habits, but I wanted to play. It didn't kill me but my swing wasn't right either.''
