ANGELS NOTEBOOK: FIGGINS GETS A DAY OFF.

Byline: DOUG PADILLA Douglas ("Doug") Padilla (born October 4, 1956 in Oakland, California) is a former middle and long distance runner from the United States, who won the overall Grand Prix 1985 and the World Cup 5000m race in 1985.   Staff Writer

BOSTON -- Chone Figgins' rough road trip earned him an extra day off Friday, as he was out of the lineup the day after an off day.

Figgins was 4 for 26 on the trip before the Angels opened a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox The Boston Red Sox are a professional baseball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Red Sox are a member and currently champions of the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball’s American League. From to the present, the Red Sox have played in Fenway Park. . He said he is not dealing with any injuries and did not know he would be out until he arrived at the ballpark.

With Garret Anderson Garret Joseph Anderson (born June 30, 1972 in Los Angeles, California) is a Major League Baseball left fielder who has played his entire career for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  returning to left field for the first time in 10 games because of a tight left hamstring, manager Mike Scioscia

in center field. Maicer Izturis was at third and Salmon was the designated hitter.

``With a day game (today), we certainly want to try to get Figgy a little bit of a breather,'' Scioscia said. ``He's been playing a lot of baseball.''

Figgins had been in the lead-off spot for 95 of the Angels' 101 games before Friday. Izturis took over the role for just the third time this season.

The extended break was a little tough to take since Figgins had two hits in Wednesday's series finale against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays The Tampa Bay Devil Rays are a professional baseball team based in St. Petersburg, Florida, Florida. The Devil Rays are a member of the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From to the present, the Devil Rays have played in Tropicana Field. .

``It's a little rough, but we're winning and that's important,'' Figgins said. ``As long as we're winning. I guess the more we keep winning the more personal achievements take a back seat. That means everybody is contributing as a team.''

Tejada coming? A report on foxsports.com said the Angels are offering Ervin Santana and minor-leaguer Erick Aybar in exchange for the Baltimore Orioles' Miguel Tejada. One problem with that deal is that the Angels might need Joe Saunders to start next week in place of Bartolo Colon and would have nobody to assume Santana's spot.

The report also said the Angels had the second-best offer for both Carlos Lee, who was traded to the Texas Rangers on Friday, and Ben Broussard, who was obtained by the Seattle Mariners last week. Aybar was said to be the centerpiece of both of those deals.

Status quo [Latin, The existing state of things at any given date.] Status quo ante bellum means the state of things before the war. The status quo to be preserved by a preliminary injunction is the last actual, peaceable, uncontested status which preceded the pending controversy. : There was no new information on Bartolo Colon's status. Colon left his start Wednesday because of right elbow inflammation.

``We're going to wait a couple of days and see how he feels on Sunday,'' Scioscia said. ``He's taking some (anti-inflammation) medicine and we'll let the medicine get in there and work and see where he is in a couple of days.''

Colon's next scheduled start is Tuesday against Oakland.
