ANGELS NOTEBOOK: FIELDER DOES JUSTICE TO NAME.

Byline: Joe Haakenson San Gabriel Valley The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. It lies to the east of the city of Los Angeles, to the north of the Puente Hills, to the south of the San Gabriel Mountains, and to the west of the Inland Empire.  Tribune

Cecil Fielder
Cecil Grant Fielder (IPA: sɛsəl) (born September 21, 1963 in Los Angeles, California) is a former professional baseball player who was a noted power hitter in the 1980's and 1990's.
lumbered up the dugout steps the other day, trying to find the energy to stretch, take batting practice and play in yet another game.

``Man, I feel old today,'' he said. ``But I'll be ready come game time.''

Fielder, 34, has become the Angels' everyday first baseman since Tim Salmon
Timothy James "Tim" Salmon (born August 24, 1968 in Long Beach, California) is a former Major League Baseball right fielder/designated hitter who played his entire career with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim franchise.
has been limited to DH duty with a foot injury. Though Fielder signed with the Angels before this season to serve primarily as the DH, he is obviously still quite capable of playing first.

Fielder has not made an error at first base and he has dug out plenty of throws in the dirt, saving his teammates from making errors.

``If there ever has been any question that Cecil Fielder is not a good first baseman, I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

"Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party.
where they got that information,'' Angels manager Terry Collins said. ``He has outstanding hands, he's always been one of the best defensive first basemen in the league. And the fact that he's out there on an every-day basis now, he's feeling more comfortable.''

On the mend: Catcher Todd Greene Todd Anthony Greene (born May 8, 1971 in Augusta, Georgia) is a catcher in Major League Baseball who is currently a free agent. He previously played for the Anaheim Angels (1996-2000), Toronto Blue Jays (2000), New York Yankees (2001), Texas Rangers 2002-2003) and the Colorado  caught nine innings Friday night in a Triple-A game at Vancouver and had no problems with his shoulder.

``He was outstanding,'' Collins said. ``He threw a guy out trying to steal. He threw the ball a total of 174 times. Not one ball got by him and he went 1 for 4.''

The big test for Greene would be how he felt Saturday, one day after catching a full game. If things continue to go well, he'll likely be activated on Wednesday.

Good bat, good glove: In his first six games going into Saturday, rookie second baseman second baseman

Noun 1. second baseman - (baseball) the person who plays second base
      second sacker
Justin Baughman Justin Baughman (born August 1, 1974, in Mountain View, California) is a retired professional baseball player who played 2 seasons for the Anaheim Angels of Major League Baseball.  is hitting .364. While the Angels are happy with his offense, they are equally impressed with his defense.

Baughman is a converted shortstop but has been a quick study at second under the guidance of third-base coach and former shortstop Larry Bowa
Lawrence Robert Bowa (born December 6 1945 in Sacramento, California) is a former middle infielder, playing mainly as a shortstop, and manager in Major League Baseball who played primarily for the Philadelphia Phillies.
        .

``Larry loves him,'' Collins said. ``I think Larry sees a little bit of himself in (Baughman).''

About time: Darin Erstad Darin Charles Erstad (born June 4, 1974 in Jamestown, North Dakota) is a first baseman/center fielder in Major League Baseball currently with the Chicago White Sox. Prior to 2007, he had played his entire career with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim franchise (1996-2006).  is finally getting some recognition in national magazines and television sports shows, and it was long overdue, Collins said.

``It's about time It's About Time may refer to:

        Television
        • It's About Time (TV series), a 1966 American television show.
        Theater
        • It's About Time (musical), a 1951 Broadway production.
people started to notice what he's doing,'' he said. ``The guy's an outstanding player. I think it hurt him last year playing first base in a league where there are so many quality first basemen.''

Extra innings: Salmon will get the day off today to rest his left foot. Salmon is limited to DH duty because of a partially torn ligament in the foot. . . . Chuck Finley, who went home from the park early on Friday because he was feeling ill, is expected to make his start today.

        ANGELS vs. MINNESOTA

Time: 5:05 p.m. at Edison Field

        TV/Radio: No TV; KRLA-AM (1110), XPRS-AM (1090)(Spanish).

Matchups: The Angels' Chuck Finley (4-1, 2.56 ERA) opposes the Twins' Brad Radke (5-3, 3.18 ERA). Finley still hasn't won a game since his club-record 14-game winning streak was broken. However, he pitched well his last time out, taking a shutout into the ninth inning May 19 against the A's. The Angels eventually won the game in extra innings. Radke placed third in the American League Cy Young Award voting last year behind Roger Clemens and Randy Johnson.
