Staff Writer SEATTLE -- Unable to shake muscle discomfort in his left shoulder and neck area, Brendan Donnelly Brendan Kevin Donnelly (b. July 4, 1971 in Washington, D.C.) is a Major League Baseball relief pitcher with the Boston Red Sox. Donnelly had bounced around the minor leagues for 10 seasons after he was drafted in 1992 by the Chicago White Sox before he finally made his met with a chiropractor chiropractor a practitioner in chiropractic. chiropractor A health professional trained in chiropractic; chiropractors do not perform surgery or prescribe drugs; of 50,000 licensed chiropractors in the US, many practice 'straight' chiropractic, ie Monday for the first time in his career. Donnelly, who turns 35 today, blames it all on old age. His pain is akin to a knot in his trapezius tra·pe·zi·us n. A muscle with origin from the superior nuchal line, the external occipital protuberance, the nuchal ligament, the spinous processes of the seventh cervical and thoracic vertebrae, with insertion into the lateral third of the posterior muscle and it affects him when he raises his glove hand in front of his body just before he delivers a pitch out of the stretch. Donnelly said the pain first surfaced 10-12 days ago but he was able to pitch through it. He wasn't as fortunate Saturday, though, when he walked three batters, gave up a hit and allowed two runs in a third of an inning against the Dodgers. ``I thought about (not pitching Saturday), but I went out there before and I was still getting people out,'' Donnelly said. ``I was getting kind of lucky. I was making one good pitch per at-bat and I happened to get the guy out on that pitch.'' Before the rocky outing, Donnelly had showed that he was worthy of some late-inning assignments. In his 11 previous outings, (11 2/3 innings) Donnelly had not allowed a run. He has limited right-handed hitters to a .200 average this season. ``You guys have seen me pitch. I'm all effort; I'm all or nothing,'' he said. ``It's not like a pinched nerve when you sleep on it wrong. The doctor will know more today. The chiropractor will straighten things out. I've never been to one but I'm not 24 years old so I have to do what I have to do.''
