ANGELS NOTEBOOK: ERSTAD'S TENDON HEALING.

Byline: DOUG PADILLA Douglas ("Doug") Padilla (born October 4, 1956 in Oakland, California) is a former middle and long distance runner from the United States, who won the overall Grand Prix 1985 and the World Cup 5000m race in 1985.   Staff Writer

ANAHEIM -- Darin Erstad Darin Charles Erstad (born June 4, 1974 in Jamestown, North Dakota) is a first baseman/center fielder in Major League Baseball currently with the Chicago White Sox. Prior to 2007, he had played his entire career with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim franchise (1996-2006).  received encouraging news Tuesday, the most uplifting of which is that his Angels career might not be finished just yet.

Erstad, who is on the disabled list for the second time this season because of problems with his right ankle, finally received a diagnosis after countless tests and visits to a doctor in Nebraska and a foot specialist in New York New York, state, United States

Not only was Erstad told there still is a chance he can rehab the injury and return at some point over the final two months of the season, he learned the injury can be operated on easily. If Erstad has surgery at the end of the season, he would be able to come back by spring training.

``You guys had mentioned career(-threatening) stuff,'' said Erstad, who has been in a walking boot for about 11 days. ``It's something they said they could take care of in the offseason easily so it's good to hear.''

Another examination today could help in determining how soon he can return.

``I'm very determined,'' he said. ``I want to bring something to the party this year. It's been completely frustrating but you know what, if I can can help out in any way, somehow get back out on that field and be effective, I'm going to try and do it. Until that time has passed, that's my goal.''

Erstad is a free agent after this season and is unlikely to receive a contract offer from the Angels. If he doesn't get back on the field this season, he likely has played his last game with the team.

``I think I made that pretty clear, I never wanted to leave here,'' Erstad said. ``But those are things to deal with later. I'm trying to get on the field as soon as possible to help out.''

What will he able to do if he does return?

``Whatever, I don't care,'' he said. ``If it helps these guys get to the promised land, I'll do whatever. They're the ones that put in all the work this year.''

Call up, send down: Joe Saunders was recalled before the game and Reggie Willits was optioned back to Triple-A Salt Lake. The move leaves the Angels with 12 pitchers for the time being, but that is expected to change before the team departs on a four-city trip following Sunday's game.

More TV: Three games were added to the Angels' television schedule. Fox Sports Net West will televise tel·e·vise
