ANGELS NOTEBOOK: EMPTY FEELING FOR FANS SEASON-TICKET HOLDERS GET NO SEATS.Byline: Doug Padilla Douglas ("Doug") Padilla (born October 4, 1956 in Oakland, California) is a former middle and long distance runner from the United States, who won the overall Grand Prix 1985 and the World Cup 5000m race in 1985. Staff Writer ANAHEIM - It was a classic case of a dog chasing its tail Friday, as the Angels' growing popularity actually made them unpopular with some longtime fans. An estimated 800 new season-ticket customers who were told to be at Angel Stadium during eight different sessions Friday to choose their seats for the 2006 season were told there were no more season tickets to be had. Instead, they received an apology and an explanation as to what happened, along with the option to purchase an abbreviated 27-game ticket plan. But even those plans were not guaranteed. Others demanded to speak directly with owner Arte Moreno. ``In my own case, I had to rearrange my schedule to go down there and when I get down there, there weren't even any tickets available,'' said Tom Rumishek of San Dimas, who has been an Angels fan since moving from Chicago in 1974. ``But I never considered the deposit a guarantee. I've been around too long and know better than that.'' Mark Allen Mark Allen is the name of:
``I'm still an Angels fan as far as the players - the players have nothing to do with administration of the ballpark; their job is to go out and play ball,'' Allen said. ``But the Angels as a business, it puts a sour taste in my mouth. They didn't have any forethought fore·thought n. 1. Deliberation, consideration, or planning beforehand. 2. Preparation or thought for the future. See Synonyms at prudence. .'' All who showed up Friday had given $1,000 deposits in order to be considered for season tickets. The team stopped taking deposits in early January when it appeared they might not have enough season seats to go around. The problem started when the Angels took another preventive measure that ironically was devised to help make sure there would be enough tickets to go around. Robert Alvarado, Angels director of marketing and ticket sales, created a plan where any previous customers who had less than six season tickets could only increase their total to a maximum of six. Any customer already with six season tickets could not increase their package. In previous seasons, there never was a cap on how many tickets a returning customer could add. --Also: The Angels renewed the contracts of four players on the 40-man roster.
