Times, one baseball official suggested Disney's decision is based on financial losses in baseball. However, an executive with another major-league team told the newspaper the move is linked to Disney's multimillion-dollar settlement in the lawsuit filed by former studio chief Jeffrey Katzenberg.

Angels spokesman Tim Mead had the following response to the published reports: ``We're referring all comment to the unnamed baseball sources . . . in the New York paper. We don't comment on rumor and speculation.''

Disney purchased the Angels from Autry in 1996, paying 25 percent - or about $30 million - and taking over operation with the agreement they would pay the remaining 75 percent upon Autry's death.

Autry died last October and Disney paid the balance.

The team reportedly lost $11 million in 1994 and $12 million in '95, the last two years Autry ran the club. Part of Disney's takeover included paying $70 million of the approximate $110 million it cost to renovate the stadium.

Matchup: Chuck Finley (6-10, 5.48 ERA) will start for Anaheim against his old friend, Cleveland's Mark Langston (1-1, 4.99). Langston lobbied for the Indians to acquire Finley before the trading deadline, often calling Finley to get him interested. But a deal was never worked out. The two were teammates with the Angels for eight seasons, from 1990-97. Langston was let go by the Angels after the '97 season, then pitched in the World Series for the Padres last year.
