ANGELS NOTEBOOK: COLLINS TAKES BLAME, PROMISES CHANGES.

Byline: Joe Haakenson Staff Writer

Angels manager Terry Collins couldn't take it.

The Angels had just lost to the Minnesota Twins The Minnesota Twins are a professional baseball team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Twins are a member of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From to the present, the Twins have played in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.  8-0 on Saturday night. They were shut out by Eric Milton Eric Robert Milton (born August 4, 1975 in State College, Pennsylvania) is an American left-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who plays for the Cincinnati Reds. , who went into the game 3-8 with a 5.30 ERA.

So Collins let off some steam to reporters.

``We stink!'' he said. ``It's my fault. Nobody else's. The responsibility comes to me. (Today) you'll see changes. There will be no more finger pointing. The finger pointing should go right here.

``There's no pressure on us. We need to relax and we need to play the game the right way. I'm sickened by it. But it's my fault. Some things happened and we couldn't stop the snowball.''

No deal: The Angels didn't make any deadline deals, but general manager Bill Bavasi William J. Bavasi (born December 27, 1957, Pasadena, California) is the current general manager and vice president of baseball operations for the Seattle Mariners. The son of longtime Major League Baseball executive Buzzie Bavasi and the brother of Peter Bavasi, also a former MLB  said the team came close to trading pitcher Jack McDowell

     to a National League team.

``In our opinion, Jack should be pitching for a contender if he's healthy,'' Bavasi said. ``We tried to accommodate that. Pitching here is almost a waste.''

No worries: The possibility of being traded might affect some players, but not pitcher Ken Hill. At least that's what he claims.

``I can't control that, I can't worry about that,'' he said. ``I'm not worrying about it. I've already been traded five times.''

The possibility that Hill will be traded still exists because trades can take place after the deadline, but players must clear waivers. And it is doubtful any team would claim Hill off waivers considering his history of elbow problems and his salary ($5.6 million next season).

Replacing Omar: Omar Olivares Omar (Palqu) Olivares (born July 6 1967 in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico) is a former right-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the St. Louis Cardinals (1990-1994), Colorado Rockies (1995), Philadelphia Phillies (1995), Detroit Tigers (1996-97), Seattle Mariners  was scheduled to start tonight's game against the Twins until he was traded Thursday to the Oakland A's. Saturday, he gave up one run and four hits in seven innings to get the victory in a 5-1 win over Tampa Bay Tampa Bay, inlet of the Gulf of Mexico, 25 mi (40 km) long and 7 to 12 mi (11.3–19 km) wide, W Fla., separated from the Gulf by numerous small islands; it receives the Hillsborough River.
