ANGELS NOTEBOOK: COLLINS QUIETS TRADE RUMORS.

Byline: Marc J. Spears Daily News Staff Writer

All the trade talk about Oakland's Mark McGwire
Mark David McGwire (born October 1, 1963 in Pomona, California) is a former professional baseball player who played the majority of his major league career with the Oakland Athletics before finishing his final years with the St. Louis Cardinals.
has put some strain on the Angels clubhouse.

On Saturday, Angels manager Terry Collins said he spoke with concerned outfielders Garret Anderson Garret Joseph Anderson (born June 30, 1972 in Los Angeles, California) is a Major League Baseball left fielder who has played his entire career for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  and Jim Edmonds James Patrick "Jim" Edmonds (born June 27, 1970 in Fullerton, California) is a left-handed batter who plays for the St. Louis Cardinals. Edmonds is affectionately known as Jimmy Baseball [1], "Lassie" and as "Hollywood"[2] among Cardinals fans.  on Friday. And after Friday night's game, Collins spent time listening to a McGwire update on television before speaking to the media. The A's power hitter will be a free agent at the end of the season and likely will be traded before the July 31 deadline.

Collins, however, believes it could be worse.

``If there is a distraction, it would be in the other clubhouse,'' Collins said. ``Everyone there is talking about that guy being traded. There is no one in our clubhouse that (the media) talks about on a daily basis being trading. There is no validity here, but there is over there.

``(Trade rumors) are all part of the business. You deal with it, move on and don't worry about it unless it actually happens.''
