ANGELS NOTEBOOK: ANGELS BRACE TO FACE THE HEAVYWEIGHTS.

Byline: Lee Barnathan Daily News Staff Writer

Since July 5, the Angels' run has been impressive: 12 wins in 13 games, including 10 in a row at one point and six of seven on the now-completed homestand.

In the process, they gained six games on division leader Seattle.

Not to take away from the accomplishments, but all except two of those games were against teams with losing records: Oakland, Texas, Detroit and Toronto, which began Sunday a combined 30 games under .500.

The 114-114 record at Cleveland is better, but the Angels are 7-18 in their past 25 games there, including two in April.

To help adjust to the three-hour time difference, the Angels were scheduled to fly to New York on Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists.  instead of today. Manager Terry Collins said he wanted to give the players the chance to sleep in today.

Can the bullpen remain reliable? How about the timely hitting and the solid defense?

``The real good teams in the second half take it up a notch,'' Collins said. Is being this close to Seattle a fluke or are the Angels for real? By the time they return home July 31, they might know the answers.
