ANGELS NOTEBOOK: A RETURN BY ERSTAD STILL A POSSIBILITY.Byline: Joe Haakenson Staff Writer ANAHEIM - At one time given little chance of returning to the lineup this season, Darin Erstad Darin Charles Erstad (born June 4, 1974 in Jamestown, North Dakota) is a first baseman/center fielder in Major League Baseball currently with the Chicago White Sox. Prior to 2007, he had played his entire career with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim franchise (1996-2006). has made enough progress in his rehab from hamstring tendinitis recently that the chances of him playing again this season have increased significantly. Erstad refuses to look ahead and make a guess, but in recent days the intensity of his workouts have increased without any setbacks. ``The pain's gone,'' Erstad said. ``I haven't done any baseball activity in three weeks, but (the injury) has calmed down. There's a process I have to follow. I'm not looking past each day. I do what they (trainers and coaches) tell me.'' Erstad has missed exactly half (67 of 134) of the Angels' games this season because of the injury. And even though the club is out of playoff contention, Erstad said he doesn't want to shut it down. ``I want to play,'' he said. ``I also want to be healthy. But if I'm ready I'm Ready is the double platinum second release from R&B singer Tevin Campbell. I'm Ready yielded the biggest R&B hit of his career the #1 R&B smash "Can We Talk", and produce 3 more successful hits in "I'm Ready", "Always In My Heart" and "Don't Say Goodbye Girl". to play and there are still games left, I want to be out there.'' Where Erstad will play might be a bigger question than whether he plays. Despite the unusual spelling of his first name, "Chone" is pronounced as "Shawn. has taken over for Erstad in center field and has played well both offensively and defensively. The club wants to see more of Figgins in center, so if Erstad comes back, he could see time at first base, where there is a smaller risk of injury. --Eckstein stays out: Shortstop David Eckstein David Mark Eckstein, (born January 20, 1975 in Sanford, Florida), is a Major League Baseball shortstop for the St. Louis Cardinals.
