In his first game since emerging from a three-game suspension, the Angels woke up in the late innings and extended the Seattle Mariners' futility in the process.

The Angels are a season-high seven games above .500 as they continue to gather momentum for a push toward first. They cut two games off the A's lead in the past four days.

Today, the Angels will get a much-needed day off, their first since July 27 between road series at Tampa Bay Tampa Bay, inlet of the Gulf of Mexico, 25 mi (40 km) long and 7 to 12 mi (11.3–19 km) wide, W Fla., separated from the Gulf by numerous small islands; it receives the Hillsborough River. ``It's real important that we're home, because now guys can go home and eat a real home-cooked dinner and hang out with the family and just relax,'' Chone Figgins Desmond DeChone "Chone" Figgins (born January 22, 1978 in Leary, Georgia) is a Major League Baseball utility player for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Despite the unusual spelling of his first name, "Chone" is pronounced as "Shawn.  said.

Figgins made sure the day of rest came on a high note. It was the first walk-off hit of Figgins' career.

Trailing 2-0 after a home run by Richie Sexson Richmond Lockwood Sexson (born December 29, 1974 in Portland, Oregon) is an American baseball player who currently plays for the Seattle Mariners. Standing at 6 feet 8 inches tall, he is currently one of the tallest overall players in MLB, and the tallest position player in MLB  in the fourth inning, the Angels cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth on a run-scoring double by Vladimir Guerrero.

Garret Anderson's eighth- inning single through the hole at shortstop with twoouts tied the score 2-2.

Figgins' game-winner came after Willits led off the ninth with an infield single off Sexson's glove at first base. He went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jose Molina.

It was the Angels' sixth victory this season when trailing after seven innings.

``We had some opportunities that we didn't cash in on, but in the end we got it done,'' Scioscia said. ``We executed well, good clutch hitting by G.A. and Figgy and some key outs from our bullpen on a day where some guys needed some much-deserved rest.''

Relievers Hector Carrasco, Scot Shields and Francisco Rodriguez were given a break after a busy weekend.

The Angels played the entire series with a 23-man roster. Adam Kennedy and Kevin Gregg served their four-game suspensions for Wednesday's fireworks fireworks: see pyrotechnics.

The Angels still pulled off the club's first four-game sweep of the Mariners since August 1986.

The Angels had trouble in the early going against a pitcher that used to be one of their own.

Jake Woods, who was claimed off waivers by the Mariners in December, was solid in his first career start.

Woods went 5 2/3 innings, giving up one run on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts. He made the Angels' roster out of spring training last season but couldn't adjust to being a reliever after starting all but one game in his minor-league career.

After Wednesday's fight with the Rangers, John Lackey said that sometimes a skirmish is just what a team needs to forge a bond. After one series, so far so good, although they Angels aren't making a huge issue of it.

``We always have a bond,'' Figgins said. ``It was just something that happened in Texas and was left in Texas.''

Scioscia said looking solely at the fight would ignore the team's entire second-half resurgence.

``I do agree sometimes things that do happen can bring a team together and maybe take some pressure off,'' Scioscia said. ``If a little of that happened, fine, but I think we were playing good baseball before that incident.''
