ANAHEIM - Angels manager Mike Scioscia
Michael Lorri "Mike" Scioscia (born November 27 1958 in Morton, Pennsylvania) is a former catcher and current Major League Baseball manager. His last name is pronounced SO-shuh. He is often referred to by the nickname Sosh.
had three players from which to pick, yet none of them would have been his first choice given a full roster of candidates.

The Angels had a chance to win Saturday afternoon's interleague game against the Cincinnati Reds with a base hit to the outfield - two outs, bottom of the ninth inning, runners on second and third base, down by one run. Scioscia picked veteran Jorge Fabregas to pinch hit for Jose Nieves. Benji Gil Romar Benjamin Gil Aguilar (born October 6, 1972, in Tijuana, Mexico) was a Major League Baseball utility player.

Gil made his Major League Baseball debut with the Texas Rangers on April 5, 1993.
     remained on the bench.

Fabregas grounded out to second base against Reds' closer Danny Graves Daniel Peter Graves (born August 7, 1973, in Saigon, South Vietnam) is a relief pitcher free agent. Born to an American serviceman father and a Vietnamese mother, he is the first and only Vietnam-born player in the history of the major leagues, and one of the few  for the final out and an Edison Field crowd of 29,881 saw the Angels drop a 4-3 decision to Cincinnati.

Brad Fullmer smacked Graves' second pitch for a double to left, sending Anderson to third.

Graves got a pitch inside to Orlando Palmeiro, who lined softly back to the mound for the first out. Scott Spiezio, who was intentionally walked to load the bases in the seventh inning, was walked unintentionally (Graves pitched around him) to load the bases again.

Catcher Bengie Molina, whose flyout wasn't deep enough to bring home a run two innings earlier, hit a sharp ground ball toward first. Reds first baseman Sean Casey made a good play to get Molina at first base, and Anderson scored to make it 4-3.

Having already used Tim Salmon in a pinch-hitting role (Salmon lined out with the bases loaded to end the seventh), Scioscia went with the left-handed-hitting Fabregas against Graves, a right-hander.

``Jorge has been hitting better in his last three or four starts,'' Scioscia said of Fabregas, who stepped up to the plate with three hits in his past seven at-bats but was hitting just .190 (8 for 42) on the season.

Graves worked the count full before a running fastball got Fabregas to end the game.

``Pinch hitting's tough, guys,'' Fabregas said. ``I can do it, it's not an excuse. But it's tough out there when a guy is throwing 95 (mph) at your hands. If I was calling the game, I'd call it the same way, in on the hands.''

The Angels staked starter Ramon Ortiz to a 2-0 lead with Spiezio's RBI RBI

Cincinnati took a 4-2 lead in the eighth inning against the Angels' bullpen.

Losing pitcher Dennis Cook walked Casey and Ben Weber gave up successive singles to Austin Kearns and Aaron Boone. Boone's single scored Casey and put the Reds ahead. Russell Branyan, acquired Friday in a trade with Cleveland, picked up his second RBI of the day with a groundout that scored Kearns.
