ANGELS FEAST AT PLATE LINEUP CHANGES PROMPT OUTBURST ANGELS 9, OAKLAND 5.

Byline: Gabe Lacques Staff Writer

ANAHEIM - Consider the beast fed.

DaVanon came up through the Oakland Athletics system before being traded to the Anaheim Angels as a minor-leaguer in 1999.
and No. 2 hitter Chone Figgins Desmond DeChone "Chone" Figgins (born January 22, 1978 in Leary, Georgia) is a Major League Baseball utility player for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Starter Paul Byrd Paul Gregory Byrd (born December 3, 1970 in Louisville, Kentucky) is a Major League Baseball right-handed starting pitcher who plays for the Cleveland Indians.

Byrd attended Louisiana State University where he pitched as part of the Tigers baseball team that won the 1991

Esteban Yan Esteban Luis Yan (born on June 22, 1975 in Campiña del Seibo, Dominican Republic) is a starting pitcher for the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball's Central League. At 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m), 255 lb (116 kg), he bats and throws right handed.  and Brendan Donnelly's 3 1/3 innings of one-hit work completed a scoreless night for the bullpen.

But the assembly-line efficiency of the Angels' offense in the third and fifth innings against Oakland right-hander Dan Haren (Pepperdine), who had posted a 2.37 ERA in his first three starts, was perhaps the most notable development.

Taking advantage of Haren's slow delivery time to the plate, the typically aggressive Angels stole a season-high five bases. And Guerrero's three-hit, two-RBI night was nothing new. He's hitting .356 and his 15 RBI already match his total for April 2004, a season that ended with an MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip.  award.

But the Angels will need contributions throughout their lineup over the long haul. DaVanon and Figgins seldom provided any in the season's first 15 games.

They entered this series hitting .175 and .237, respectively, but have shined in their new lineup spots. A pop fly that fell for a double Friday buoyed DaVanon's confidence. Saturday, his third-inning walk and fifth-inning single looked innocent enough.

But by the end of those frames, the Angels had posted three and six runs.

``I'm supposed to set the table for Vladdy and Garret (Anderson), and I wasn't doing my job,'' said DaVanon, who had two of the Angels' five steals. ``Anytime you put up an inning like that and bat around, it's great for confidence, and tonight, we needed it.''

Figgins had struggled in the No. 9 spot, but while DaVanon started the rallies at the bottom, Figgins passed the baton to the middle of the lineup. He helped both rallies along with RBI singles, scored two runs and stole his sixth base of the year.

``We haven't set the table like we should for Vlad and GA,'' Scioscia said. ``We have to keep that going. Figgy did a terrific job tonight.''

Byrd did not. He had pitched into the sixth inning of all three of his starts and started Saturday with four innings of one-hit ball. But the fifth inning saw Byrd turn a 3-0 lead into a 5-3 deficit, thanks mainly to Bobby Kielty's three-run homer. Kielty was hitting .059 at the time.

No matter. Woods got Erubiel Durazo to pop out, ending the inning and starting a 4 1/3-inning scoreless run for the bullpen.

``I will have to return the favor and pick them up,'' Byrd said. ``Tonight, I did not throw the ball well. It was extremely frustrating.''

But Byrd's poor outing was undone in the bottom half of the inning. It was DaVanon who started it with a leadoff single and stolen base. Figgins knocked him home with another RBI single. Guerrero then tied it 5-5 by ripping a short-hop shot past third baseman Chavez for an RBI double.

A single by Anderson, a Steve Finley sacrifice fly, an Orlando Cabrera single and a Dallas McPherson single - for his first RBI this year - made it 7-5. Josh Paul followed with a deep fly that left fielder Charles Thomas dropped at the end of a long run for a two-base error, and just like that, it was 9-5 and every Angel had reached base.

``We're not a team built on the home run,'' Scioscia said. ``We have to keep that going. That's what's going to make us go.''
