    The Mariners tied the score at 6-6 with two runs in the eighth. Angels starter Chuck Finley walked Alex Rodriguez to open the inning and was replaced by Mike James.

    James gave up a double to Martinez to score Rodriguez. James got an out and was replaced by closer Troy Percival, who got another out before Dan Wilson singled in Martinez from second to tie the score.

    Finley allowed five runs on five hits and four walks in seven-plus innings.

    Rex Hudler put the Angels ahead 6-4 with a two-run homer off Tim Davis in the sixth after Davis walked Darin Erstad to open the inning. Hudler had four hits.

    The Angels used four walks by Mariners starter Matt Wagner and two hits to score four runs in the fifth to tie the score at 4-4.

    The Mariners built a 4-0 lead in the first four innings.

    Wagner went five innings, giving up four runs on six hits and five walks.

    Notes: Rodriguez collected his 31st double, second in the majors behind Martinez, who had his 43rd. . . . Angels No. 1 catcher Don Slaught, who had to leave Thursday night's game in the seventh inning because of back spasms, had X-rays Friday. He is day-to-day. The Angels recalled catcher Jorge Fabregas from Triple-A Vancouver to back up Pat Borders while Slaught is out. . . Forty-three of Wagner's 104 pitches were in the fifth inning. . . . Finley had five strikeouts to give him 123, second-most in the AL behind Boston's Roger Clemens, with 144.
