The son of longtime Major League Baseball executive Buzzie Bavasi and the brother of Peter Bavasi, also a former MLB  said he was working on a deal ``that would involve a lot of people,'' and possibly bring the Angels a No. 5 starter and a leadoff hitter In baseball, a leadoff hitter is a batter who bats first in the lineup. The Angels also lost minor league infielder Mike Bell, who was selected by Arizona with the 14th pick of the second round.

Bell never actually played in the Angels organization. He was acquired last month from Texas in exchange for left-hander Matt Perisho.

Out of the loop: Dodgers manager Bill Russell was not angry. He just felt a little bit left out.

Russell said the last time he saw the Dodgers' protected list was Nov. 1. That's 10 days before Dodgers executive vice president Fred Claire finalized it.

Russell said he would have liked to have had more input, but he figured other managers were similarly detached from the process. That was not the case. Nine managers were part of their team's four-man brain trust on draft day. The Angels' Terry Collins was one of those managers. Five or six other managers were in attendance Tuesday. Russell was on a cruise.

Dodgers executives at the team's table Tuesday were Claire, director of scouting Terry Reynolds, minor league director Charlie Blaney and administrator Robert Schweppe.
