ANGELS BOUNCE BACK INTO FIRST GUERRERO, BULLPEN KEY WIN ANGELS 9, SEATTLE 4.

Byline: Keven Chavez Staff Writer

SEATTLE - Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero Vladimir Alvino Guerrero (born February 9, 1976 in Don Gregorio, Nizao, Dominican Republic), and known in his native Dominican Republic as Miquéas (Spanish for Micah), is a Major League Baseball right fielder who plays for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  put on a display of power on Friday night the likes of which have never been seen at Safeco Field Coordinates:

Then the Angels watched their bullpen put them in position to win, something that hadn't been seen on their current road trip.

Guerrero's unmatched pair of upper-deck home runs were tremendous shots, but clutch relief work by Brendan Donnelly Brendan Kevin Donnelly (b. July 4, 1971 in Washington, D.C.) is a Major League Baseball relief pitcher with the Boston Red Sox.

Donnelly got the Angels out of a seventh-inning bases-loaded jam to keep the score tied, and the Angels' offense responded by batting around and scoring five runs in the eighth inning to lift the team to a much-needed victory in front of a crowd of 37,585.

The Angels bullpen had given up leads in two losses to the A's the previous two days.

``It was important for me, the team, the bullpen,'' Donnelly said. ``We don't need anyone else to tell us that (the relievers) haven't been as good as people and ourselves expect.''

With the score tied 4-4, Angels starter Jarrod Washburn Jarrod Michael Washburn (born August 13, 1974 in La Crosse, Wisconsin) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Seattle Mariners. Drafted by the California Angels in the 2nd round of the 1995 amateur draft out of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Washburn won the final game  began the seventh inning by walking Jeremy Reed This article is about the American sportsman. His early career was spent in the Cuban leagues, including Villa Clara of the Serie Nacional. . Washburn, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list before the game, then retired former Angel Scott Spiezio on a pop-up before Angels manager Mike Scioscia made the call to the bullpen.

Enter Donnelly, who just a day before in Oakland was rocked for four runs in one inning of work. This time the former All-Star reliever answered the call by striking out pinch-hitter Dave Hansen. Then, after intentionally walking Ichiro Suzuki to load the bases, Donnelly (7-3) got Willie Bloomquist to ground out to end the inning and the Mariners' scoring threat.

``(Donnelly) picked me up huge,'' said Washburn, who allowed four runs (three earned), five hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings. ``The guys (in the bullpen) have been taking the last few weeks a little hard.

``I still think they're the best bullpen in the league.''

The Angels' offense then went to work on Seattle relievers J.J. Putz (4-5) and George Sherrill, stringing together six singles, a walk and a sacrifice fly to push across five runs in the eighth inning for a 9-4 lead.

Kevin Gregg pitched two scoreless innings of relief to finish the game.

Guerrero dazzled the crowd with prodigious solo home runs into the upper deck in left field in both the fourth and sixth innings. It was the first time in stadium history that a player had reached the upper deck twice in a game.

His fourth-inning home run off Seattle starter Jamie Moyer sailed an estimated 431 feet over the scoreboard in left field and cut the Angels' deficit to 4-3. His sixth-inning shot was nearly identical, this time coming on a 3-0 pitch from Moyer and traveling an estimated 434 feet into the left-field bleachers.

``The last 20 at-bats or so I think he's really seeing the ball well,'' Scioscia said. ``Tonight, you can't square a ball up any better than those couple home runs.''

The home runs were Guerrero's 24th and 25th of the season, giving him four in the past four games and 298 in his career. It was his third multi-homer game this season.

Bengie Molina hit a solo home run in the second inning.

In the third inning, the Mariners took a 4-2 lead when Washburn's throwing error allowed two runs to score.

Yorvit Torrealba walked and Ichiro Suzuki singled to lead off the inning. Bloomquist followed with a perfect bunt. Washburn fielded the ball, wheeled and threw wide of first base and into the right-field corner. Torrealba and Suzuki both came around to score, but Guerrero threw Bloomquist out at third base.
